Yes please do a review of the Clone Wars! Enjoyed this; I agree about the acting, so bad that it was weird, especially with so many famous actors who are normally quite good ? It made it difficult to enjoy the movie. The prequels was only had one thing I liked, and that was a fairly well explained story about why Anakin turned into Vadar, albeit with massive plot holes (like Obiwan cutting him up and leaving him, erm?) I'd love to see you cover those.
I feel really bad for Jake Lloyd. He may have been able to do much better under better Direction. I more blame George Lucas's shortcomings. This movie ruined Jake Lloyd's life :(… he was too young and unable to handle the backlash. But I find the movie overall enjoyable and it's a masterpiece compared to the Last Jedi 😂 just because it actually has heart, and while it may annoy some fans it doesn't go out of its to insult them
The main reason they had to go to Tatooine was that their hyperdrive was damaged during the escape.
The worst decision that Lucas made with the prequel trilogy was gearing the it towards children and adults at the same time and in my opinion, for merchandising purposes. It had adult themes mixed in with cartoon humor. You can't have both unless you are capable of pulling it off (ala Pixar). Also, criminally underused Maul (which I also believe was to push merch for him, think boba fett).
I don't understand why ppl don't like episode 1-3. Personally episode 1 is my favorite (probably bc it's the first one I saw, 9 years old kid). You even talk about bad CGI, cmon it ain't that bad, they use dolls and shit as Yoda in the old ones. The CGI looks pretty real to me honestly, except jar jar obviously. I agree with almost everything u say on this channel, but not this.
YES, WATCH THE CLONE WARS! Make sure to look up the chronological order of episodes before you start though, as some are out of order.
Sorry. but don`t agree that it´s that bad!.. At least give this movie a 7. comparing to the last jedi, this movie is so much better!!!!
I believe the force power you're referring to is called "force speed". It was used in SW video games as well.
The De-Cheesed Edits of the Prequels are much better, as they cut out most of the poor dialogue, the dumb stuff (mostly Anakin's accidental destruction "Oops!") and the soppy melodramatic stuff. One of the coolest things the editors did was replace all of Jar Jar Bink's dialogue with an alien dialect and subtitles. They also did it with Nute Gunray's character at the start of The Phantom Menace, instead of him having the Japanese accent. Well worth a watch.
The Midi-chlorians were in one of the original drafts of Episode 4: A New Hope, but one of the Story Editors at the time insisted that the Force should be mysterious. George Lucas wasn't happy with the religious aspect of the Force and Jedis being almost like monks, so some dialogue was changed in the final script. It seems the Story Editors did their job well, as it was a good choice at the time.
You mentioned the re-fuelling issue being brought up in Phantom, the difference though is that Amidala's ship was like a private jet and would possibly require re-fuelling in order to jump. However I would have thought capital ships particularly that of Leia's flagship the Raddus would have had the facility to generate it's own power! not too indifferent from that of the Enterprise etc..
Force Speed. I used it hundreds of times in order to avoid sentries or to close distance fast with Kyle Katarn in my first person shooter, SW Jedi Knight, 1997. There are, in legends at least, force abilities specific to Light (battle meditation) and Dark (Force Lightning) as well as "neutral" force abilities used by light and dark alike, Force Jump, Force Push, Force Pull, Force Speed. "Neutral" abilities only enhance athletic abilities and they don't require a certain state of mind. In cannon films, one can see Force Jump (Luke in Empire and RotJ), Force Push and Force Pull (Darth Maul in Phantom Menace), Force Speed (Jin and Kenobi in Phantom Menace)
I think the prequel trilogy is worth watching mainly for the Sith characters. The rise of Darth Sidious is the best storyline in the prequels, with Darth Maul being the most interesting new character introduced by the prequels. Most every scene with Maul or Sidious is great… everything else is so so. I thought General Grievous was also a great Star Wars character, but he gets very little screen time and is beaten a little too easily.
As bad as Jar Jar is, I'd take him any day over Rose Tico.
watching it after TLJ, it's much better then it was when it just came out. trust me on this.
TPM is a Great Movie !
There are only three thing I can complain about TPM:-Screenplay especially some dialog needed fixing.-Too much CG -Too much Jar Jar I'm not against Jar Jar, I like Gungans, they are cool and Achmet Best did a great job playing Jar Jar.
The plot of the movie was actually really, really good. It was the execution of it that killed it for me: the dialogue, the acting (particularly anakin and padmé) and the excessive use of CGI and silly new aliens.
Imagine the trade federation for example looking like this: (one of the first hits for "alien races concept art" on google:
and then acting with a more serious tone – doing the exact same thing that they did plotwise in the movie – it could be movie gold right there.
"The worst acting was Anikin and Obi Wan."
Wait, so does that mean Jar Jar was better?
Did you ever read about the Darth Jar-Jar theory?
Besides Rogue One, Phantom Menace is still the worst of the Star Wars films, hands down. Attack of the Clones might be worse though honestly when I think about it, because that one was coma inducing boring. The weirdest thing about the prequels is that they overall had better actors than the originals, but the acting all sucks. Even Samuel L. Jackson sucks in these films.
The cgi is terrible, Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park have better cgi and they were made years earlier.
Michael Jackson was originally going to play Jar Jar, but he turned the role down after he found out the character would be cgi and not makeup effects. Ive always wondered if the character would have been better with MJ playing it.
Why did the Jedi leave Anakin's mom on Tatooine and not just go back and get her? They basically left Anakin with a grudge against them for leaving his mother to die on a desert planet run by the mob. Just so stupid.
I think I may be the only person who didn't care about Midi-clorieans. They were an idea originally intended for A New Hope in fact, and I dont know, it just doesnt bother me.
Palpatine is awesome I admit, but in this film, hes not in the shadows, he appears like every ten minutes in hologram form.
I love your reviews, even when I don't agree with them. I like that you just sit in front of a camera and talk and not use fancy editing and clips galore. In this case though I agree with you, Episode 1 sucks. I don't honestly like any of the prequels, but I feel a desire to rewatch them after watching Last Jedi. Maybe I'll like them more.
You should review all the other Star Trek series, from TOS to Enterprise. Would be interesting to see what you think of them
Force Speed is an established force power. It's in the Jedi Knight games where you play Kyle Katarn, Knights of the Old Republic, etc (mostly games). But I do have to ask, if they have access to this power, why didn't Obi-Wan use it to get through to Qui-Gon and Maul.
Why does everything in the Prequels look like it's made out of plastic? I include many of the characters' faces in that question.
This film is so trashed and so reviled to such an exaggerated and undeserving degree that hearing a tepid and middling opinion on it is actually refreshing.
I didn't hate episode I, II and III at all, why so many people cried like manchildren over TPM I will never understand.
I grew up with all the movies, in the late 90's I watched EP 4, 5 and 6 on VHS, just before TPM came out.
I say 6/10. I agree regarding the acting etc. but the film unfortunately has to be viewed from the perspective of a trilogy and the rise to power of palpatine. On that basis the trade dispute is important as it reflects real life politics and how Palpatine took advantage of war to his own end. This becomes the pinnacle of the whole story of Palpatines genius rise to creating an empire that comes to fruition in ROTS. But as a standalone film with all your other points, yes agreed. Acting was done against green screen and I do recall the actors mentioning the difficulty of acting with no points of reference. Overall much better than TLJ
If you go by the games and books that was Force Sprint if I’m not mistaken. It looked weird on screen but it WAS in canon before Disney got their hands on it. I’m not sure I it’s canon anymore tho.
Yoda and Dooku also use somthing similar. They use the force to amplify their physical abilities because of their increasing frailty of old age. Its how they fought and beat much more physical and youthful Jedi or Sith.
