My summary of three nights of debugging to get PS3/Linux hardware accelerated X working again. It is finally up and running; in OtherOS++ with full access to the NVdia RSX GPU!
Excellent work! Are you on twitter by chance?
This is very cool. Great hacking work man. What is the compatibilty of this code so far. I dont know if the PS3 slim has different hardware or kernel. Also could you do a video on your dev setup. I see your a fan of urxvt term.
Wow glad you made it, if i had ps3 i would try it
I wish i helped you, this project looks awesome
OMG I neeeeeeed this. I subscribed in the hope to see more videos like this. I don't own a PS3 about would buy one to tinker with.
I'll ask the question every noob is thinking. With this new capability, would this be a good route for mining crypo currencies? A used ps3 is around $150 right now and if I remember correctly they can be clustered. Perhaps BTC is off the table, but to mine alt coins I wonder if this is a cost effective solution. Also great work! You are a talented programmer!
I'd like to see how a modern CELL could handle todays machine-vision workloads .. CNNs etc (given that it had instructions tailored for video encode/decode). Given current trends I actually think it's a shame this chip was ditched. Ahead of it's time, and slightly out of context (certainly wired up badly in the PS3)
Detailed debugging videos sounds good, and if it makes recording easier even better.
This is awesome!
